Congratulations, Kendal!

13-February-2017—North Fort Myers, Fla.—The lunch room grows quiet as Classical Christian Academy Athletics Director Mark Dillehay steps up to the microphone. Senior Kendal D. sits at a table in the front, smiling broadly. Her hard work and training have all been worth it. Mr. Dillehay is about to share some big news with the CCA community: Kendal has become the school’s first student to be awarded an athletic college scholarship. She will be playing soccer for the Keiser University Seahawks this fall.

“This is a very special moment for me,” remarks Kendal. “I’m so excited!”

Amazingly, Kendal did not start playing soccer competitively until age 14. She played on CCA’s first middle school soccer team, and during her freshman year, she played on the CCA volleyball team.

She then decided to focus on soccer and began playing for the competitive Cape Coral Cyclones club team and North Fort Myers High School. This season NFMHS had a 22-2-1 overall record and, during her time there, they won two district championships and played in two regional final games.

Kendal is one of six CCA students who play team sports competitively through local high schools or at the club level. This year, CCA expanded its athletic offerings to include high school boys’ basketball. High school volleyball will be added in the fall. Middle school sports include volleyball, flag football, basketball, cheerleading and soccer.

Although Kendal started soccer late, her athletic ability was obvious. She will be a defender for the Seahawks, where she joins a team largely comprised of international students.

“God has blessed her with so much ability,” says her father, Mr. Rich Davis. “She has so much love for competition. She always puts God first, and we could never be prouder.”

At Keiser, Kendal plans to major in marketing. She would like to play soccer professionally after college, possibly overseas.

“When she sets her mind to do something, she does it,” Mr. Davis says. He gave a touching speech at the CCA celebration, which included cake for everyone.

Kendal is one of CCA’s original students, having attended the school since kindergarten. She received several scholarship offers, but Keiser was her first pick. Keiser’s 100-acre, residential flagship campus is located in West Palm Beach.
