Three other CCA teachers were also named finalists: Mrs. Evelyn Strasbugh, who teaches kindergarten and was also nominated in the Elementary division; Mrs. Vicki Watson, who teaches math and Spanish was nominated in the middle school division; and Mrs. DeFrance, who teaches Upper School math, grammar, spelling, English, study skills, speech, personal finance and Biblical World View was nominated in the high school division.

“It was an honor to win the 2015 Golden Halo award,” said Mrs. Dillehay. “I love teaching. Interacting with kids and watching the growth and development they experience throughout the year is a blessing. The wins in the classroom are my reward. To be recognized outside of that is a special feeling.”

This is CCA’s third year participating in the Golden Halo program, the third time its teachers were chosen as award finalists, and the third time one of its teachers won the award.

“Tabitha is the kind of person who is confident her life’s work is for God’s glory – and is a treasure because of it,” said Mrs. Amy Davis, principal and founder of CCA. “One of the reasons she’s a great teacher is that she gets excited about everything – curriculum, planning projects, seeing her students work together, engaging the class in discussions…. She literally is overflowing with joy at the idea of teaching. Her enthusiasm overflows to her students, who in turn love learning. CCA is truly blessed to have Tabitha share her gifts with our students and school.”

The Chamber accepts nominations from students attending Christian schools in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. Representatives from the Chamber then visit the classrooms and observe the teachers with their students. The Chamber compiles and evaluates the information and selects 12 finalists; four in each of the elementary school, middle school and high school divisions.

Mrs. Tabitha Dillehay graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She has 12 years of classroom experience, and she and her husband Mark share ten years of homeschooling experience with their four children: Emily, Sarah, Ty and Katie.
