“I’ve always known we have really great teachers. It’s wonderful to see some of them get recognized outside of our school,” said Amy Davis, CCA principal, founder and CEO. “I believe our teachers are answering a calling to teach and minister with their life’s work. They are extraordinary.”

The Chamber accepts nominations from students attending Christian schools in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. This year, they received 43 nominations. The Chamber selects 12 finalists; four in each of the high school, middle school and elementary school divisions.

Sue Fowler, from the Chamber explained, “We use a combination of things to help us choose the finalists. We review the students’ nomination forms; the teacher’s application where they answer questions like how they feel they share their faith with their kids; and then the pre-visits where a retired teacher evaluates how the teachers and students respond to each other, what the energy is like in the room. It’s a tough decision for us to make.”

The winners will be named at the Chamber’s ninth annual Golden Halo awards ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2015, at the St. Leos Parish Life Center in Bonita Springs. The guest speaker is Mike Reese, Theology Department Head at Bishop Verot High School. For more information visit: http://hischamber.org/golden-halo-awards/.
