Thank A Police Officer Day

CCA Police

Students Ella C and Cami S loved serving the officers!

The Aylward House hosted CCA’s first House Wide event of the 2018-2019 school year! For Thank A Police Officer Day our families donate gift cards and write notes to thank our local police department for all they do on a daily basis. Upper School English Teacher, Shawna Christenson and her husband, Detective Adam Christenson have been married for sixteen years and CCA was excited to join her efforts for Thank A Police Officer Day. This month, the Aylward House and several CCA students were able to bring over $1,100 worth of gift cards to the Cape Coral Police Department—the highest amount that has ever been raised over the last four years.

What’s it gonna be?

“It makes a difference.” Mrs. Christenson said. Police officers start each day not knowing exactly how it will unfold. For some people that type of mystery is stressful but Officer Rush of the CCPD says that’s part of the fun! “Every shift is different,” he says. He likes “not knowing what the day will bring.”  Officer Rush was thrilled to receive a Wawa gift card and emphatically told us, “I LOVE WAWA!” Officer Johnson explained that “Wawa is the only place open after 2 am and options are limited during the night shift.” She echoed Officer Rush saying that the thing she enjoys most about her job is that “no call is ever the same,” and that she enjoys getting to meet lots of different people. Officer Johnson was one of many touched by the donations from CCA. She commented, “Like teaching, police work is often a thankless job. These donations are a nice reminder of why we do this job.” The journey into police work is different for every person but for Officer Thomas, he knew from a young age that he wanted to serve his community. “Since around the age of 12, I have always had an interest in law enforcement. It was something that would be different every day and would have me out and about helping people.”

Each officer of the CCPD is very different, coming from different backgrounds, with different life experiences. The one common thread between all of them is the deep desire to serve and help their community.

Thank you so much to the families who took the time to write thank you notes and donate gift cards for this event. Our first House Wide event hosted by the Aylward House was a success! Your efforts made an impact and let the Cape Coral Police Department know that they are seen and loved. Jesus said in John 13, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)
